    • The external evaluation aims to ensure that project implementation remains aligned with its objectives, while confirming the quality of outcomes and outputs, as well as the relevance of results to the development needs of involved universities and the covered industry.
      To monitor the quality, an external expert has been involved in assessing the project’s progress and results. The expert has undertaken a comprehensive evaluation of project implementation, including an in-depth analysis of developed deliverables and supporting materials, as well as the quality and relevance of the results. Particular attention has been given to how effectively the project results address the needs of partner institutions, target groups, and the broader context of the target countries.
      As part of the evaluation process, several meetings with project partners have been organised to gain deeper insight into the alignment of project results with the needs of universities and the food industry. These meetings have contributed to assessing the quality of project processes, including cooperation mechanisms, implementation approaches, and the overall effectiveness and impact of project activities. The most recent meeting of project partners and the expert took place on 1 April 2026, representing an important milestone in monitoring project progress and supporting continuous quality improvement. Findings and recommendations will be summarised in the report.

    • Developing the food industry requires not only equipment and technologies. It requires the change of minds and hands, joined in one direction. When research and real production meet, a space emerges where knowledge begins to work and leads to a new quality. Such an environment is being created within the framework of the project “OFINU - Open Food Innovation University”, being implemented with the support of the European Union Erasmus+ programme and aimed at creating a new form of studies and educational programs in Central Asia.
      Our company, “Golden Fruit”, participates in the project as an industrial partner for whom cooperation with universities is not a formality but a strategic foundation. We see education as a source of renewal, and the university as a place where the future of the region’s human and technological capacity is born.
      The Isfara branch of the Technological University of Tajikistan (BTUTI) is an active participant in the project. Three employees of our enterprise are studying there, combining daily hands-on practice with gaining academic knowledge. Three teachers of the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies - experts with extensive experience in developing food products and technologies, trained BTUTI students and external learners in modern technologies, including the production of Latvian bread, using precise, disciplined, and high-standard methods.
      The knowledge and skills were immediately put in use. Our employees mastered the new method and implemented it in production. Now “Golden Fruit” produces and sells Latvian bread made in-house - a product that emerged from collaboration, from the chain: university — specialist — production — consumer.
      Our beliefs: 1. When knowledge turns into action, it becomes a force. 2. When action is grounded in knowledge, it becomes quality. 3. The result is seen in every loaf purchased by the people of Isfara.
      The OFINU project has shown that partnership between universities and businesses is not a theory. It is a working mechanism for economic and regional development. It simultaneously raises the competencies of young specialists and elevates food production to a new level. Every participant—students, lecturers, foreign experts, and employees of the company contributed their effort, responsibility, and discipline.
      We express our gratitude to:

      • The “OFINU” project team for creating an environment for open and practical learning;
      • The specialists from Latvia who generously shared their professional expertise;
      • The Isfara branch of the Technological University of Tajikistan for the high-quality training of students and staff;
      • And our employees at “Golden Fruit”, who embraced the knowledge and turned it into a real product.

      When work is based on sincere cooperation, the fruits appear naturally.
      With each step, such a partnership strengthens trust, raises the quality of education, and makes the market stronger. The OFINU project has already produced results you can hold in your hands.
      And that is the best indicator of being on the right path.

    • On 9 January 2026, all project partners gathered for an online meeting to exchange experiences and insights gained during the piloting of the Open University study format and newly developed study modules.
      The meeting provided a platform for partners to reflect on the implementation process, share lessons learned, and evaluate the teaching methods and approaches applied during the pilot trainings. Particular attention was given to identifying strengths, challenges, and areas for improvement in order to further enhance the quality and effectiveness of the study format.
      In addition, partners discussed the process and methodology for the in-depth evaluation, which will ensure a comprehensive and structured assessment of the Open University model. This includes analysing the relevance of the study content, the effectiveness of teaching methods, and the overall alignment of the approach with the needs of universities and the food industry sector.
      In the coming months, project partners will continue refining the content of the study modules, while academic staff will further develop their pedagogical skills to strengthen their capacity to deliver education that is responsive to the needs of the economic environment. At the same time, Samarkand Agroinnovations and Research University (P2) will continue the piloting of Module No.4, which is scheduled to be completed in April 2026.
      All collected insights, feedback, and evaluation results will be systematically compiled and used for the preparation of the piloting report, providing a solid basis for further development and future implementation of the Open University study format.

      Kick-off

    • Starting from February 1, 2024, the Khatlon Entrepreneurs' Association as an associate partner will participate in the implementation of the project “Open Food Innovation University – OFINU”, funded by the European Union Erasmus+ Programme.
      The consortium is composed of the Technological University of Tajikistan, Kulob Institute of Technology and Innovative Management, Branch of the Technological University of Tajikistan in Isfara and two universities from Uzbekistan and two from European Union. The lead partner is Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies (LBTU). The project is coordinated by LBTU Lifelong Education Centre, having ten years’ experience in the development and implementation of higher education modernisation related projects in Central Asia.
      The project aims to develop and introduce in the involved Central Asia universities a new form of studies in which teaching and learning takes place in a modular format and in which together with full-time students participate external learners - listeners to study modules - people, having intention to acquire food processing related knowledge and/or to acquire higher education. For example, specialists in food processing industries or those who wish to become specialists. To this end, a legal basis will be created and strengthened, study modules developed, academic staff of partners trained, and the material base, needed for studies, developed.
      External learners will participate in certain modules together with full-time students, thus obtaining the credits determined for each module after completion of the training, acquiring the necessary knowledge, as well as gradually accumulating credits that allow the acquisition of a higher education diploma. This approach will enable people who have already entered the labour market to learn, increase their competitiveness in the labour market, as well as to increase the employment potential of students studying full-time programmes.
      Significant role in the project is given to the associated partners – five food processing enterprises and one business association (including in Tajikistan – Khatlon Entrepreneurs' Association, JSC "Kombinati shiri Dushanbe" and LLC “Oriyon Rustam”), who will participate in the new study modules designing process, will take part in their validation, and will delegate staff to take part in the piloting. Though associated partners have been chosen, other interested food producers are welcomed for participation.
